Assam: Drugs worth Rs 4 crore seized in Cachar, 2 arrested

Guwahati: In a major crackdown against drugs, Assam police have seized a huge quantity of contraband items in Assam’s Cachar district.

According to police, drugs worth over Rs 4 crores were seized.

 Two persons have also been arrested by the Cachar police in Assam in connection with the drugs seizure.

The two arrested persons were identified as Saharul Islam Mazumder (31) and Samir Hussain Laskar (45).

Police said the arrested individuals are residents of Berenga area in the Cachar district of Assam.

“A total of 40,000 Yaba tablets were seized. We have arrested two persons in connection with the seizure and started our investigation,” said a police official.

 On Friday, the BSF seized 20,000 Yaba tablets worth Rs 2 crore in Hailakandi district of Assam.

Assam police Director General of Police(DGP) GP Singh said in the last two years drugs worth over Rs 1400 crore were seized by police from different parts of the state.

“As many as 9309 drug traffickers were also arrested in the same period from across the state. 5580 cases registered under NDPS act. Assam in now in the top 10 in registration of NDPS act cases,” DGP GP Singh added.
