Assam: Flood safety awareness and ferry-ghat inspection in Tinsukia

Guwahati: As the flood situation in the state is becoming critical due to incessant rain from the last fortnight, the Fire and Emergency Services Station in Tinsukia has started conducting awareness and inspection programmes in Tinsukia district of upper Assam.

On Tuesday afternoon, a flood safety awareness cum Ferry Ghat Inspection was conducted by Tinsukia F&ESS at Arahuti Parghat ( IWT ) Guijan, Response Team Commander of Tinsukia F&ESS Suruj Khanikar said .

“At least 50 ferry owners participated in the awareness programmes. NDMA guidelines on Boat safety, 2017 also distributed among ferry owners, lessies and boat operators,” Khanikar said .

Khanikar also requested the government to provide sufficient numbers of Lifebuoy, lifejackets, signal lights etc.

The NDMA has issued guidelines for Ghat safety, Boats safety and fixed tasks for owners and lessies.

It may be mentioned here that Tinsukia has also several ghats on Brahmaputra which are sensitive.
