GUWAHATI, NOV 10: Assam Minister of Transport, Fisheries & Excise Parimal Suklabaidya on Thursday launched the River Ranching Programme, an initiative funded under PMMSY & Monitored by National Fisheries Development Board.
The programme has been launched statewide across various districts under the guidance of respective district fishery development offices.
Suklabaidya launched this programme in Kamrup Metropolitan district in Uzanbazar Ghat. He also released two lakh fish seeds in river Brahmaputra.
The River Ranching Programme is aimed at promoting sustainable use & conservation of fishery resources in an economically & environmentally responsible manner, while ensuring the upgrading of traditional fisheries.
The River Ranching Programme is incorporated under PMMSY Scheme as a special scheme.
In Assam, 22 districts have been selected to initiate this programme with a target of releasing 29 lakh fish seeds, breeded at a cost of Rs. 87 lakhs.
