Rain dampen sprit of Diwali festival in Assam

GUWAHATI, OCT 24: Rains has dampen the sprit of Diwali and Kali Puja festival in Assam on Monday.

Most of the Kali Puja committees are facing problem due to rain. Some of the puja mandaps in Guwahati was waterlogged due to incessant rain.

“We are facing problem due to rain. Our business was affected due to the rain. We are hopeful that this time our business will be good because of no Covid-19 restrictions but the rain has affected our business,” a shopkeeper said.

The Puja Committees in Dibrugarh have taken different themes but due to rain the pandals have been affected.

“Every year, our puja has been a crowd puller because we take different themes. This year, we are thinking the people will flooded our puja pandal but rain has dampen the spirit,” said Bapi Sarkar, a member of Shantipara Kali Puja committee.

Progrssive Youth cultural Association, Banasbari Pathar has taken Haunted House as their theme this year. “The small children will enjoy our theme. This year our budget was low and we have decided that this year we will make some different theme where small kids and children will enjoy,” said Suhartta Dev, a comittee member said.

“Rain has dampen the spirit of the festival. Diwali is the festival of light but due to rain people could not lit earthen lamp and candles,” said Dev
