Tea Plucker wins heart by clinging Gold in South Asian Karate Championship

GUWAHATI, JULY 10: Defeating all odds, 20-year-old tea plucker Rasina Gowala of Maijan tea estate won hearts of the people in Dibrugarh by clinging Gold medal recent concluded 11th South Asian Ashihare Karate championship held at Chalsa in West Bengal. Five neighbouring countries have participated in the event held at Chalsa in West Bengal from June 24-26,2022.

Rasina has proved that if once have dedication and compassion to achieve something, then he/she can achieve it.

Rasina is a temporary worker at Maijan tea estate in upper Assam Dibrugarh. She plucks tea leaves at Maijan tea estate with other womenfolk of the tea garden but her passion and interest towards sports is unbelievable.

Rasina has become famous among the tea garden workers in Maijan after she bagged gold medal in the Karate championship.

Talking to this correspondent, Rasina said, “From my childhood, I have interest in sports activity. I watch the boys, who played football in our garden field. I decided to take parts in sports activity and from then my sports career started. Recently, I have won Gold medal in Ashihare Karate championship. All credits to my coach Tapan Bhuyan who have trained me all the skills of the game,”.

She added, “From last seven years, I am learning Karte. Now, many girls of Tea garden practice Karate. Every girl of Tea garden should learn Karate for self defense,”.

“During rainy season our practice area becomes flooded. We have to face problem because we have no other alternative. I appeal that the government should provide area for our practise,”.

Tapan Bhuyan, Karate coach of Rasina said, “We are proud of her because she brought Gold medal in the recent concluded Ashihare Karate championship. In 2018, in Mixed boxing championship, she brought Gold medal,”.

“Seven years ago, Rasina brought her sister to me for teaching Karate. Everyday, she came with her sister. One day, I asked Rasina would you want to learn Karate and she replied yes and from then her journey begins,” Bhuyan said.

He further added, “I teach Karate in many tea gardens of Dibrugarh. I have many students who learn Karate from me. The students are interested in this sports and want to do something”.
