Amit Shah visits tribal-dominated Manipur district, announces Rs 10 lakh for victims’ families

Guwahati: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday visited Manipur’s Churachandpur district, which was severely affected by the ethnic violence since May 3.

Amit Shah held a meeting with the state council of ministers and a decission was made to give compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to those who died during the ethnic violence. “During the meeting it was also decided to provide government job to the kin of the family whose members were killed in the violence.The compensation amount would be equally borne by the Centre and the state,” said an official.

Shah also held meetings with various Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), influential tribal leaders and local security and civil administrations officials.”This crucial engagement aims to study the actual situation in ground zero and gather inputs and better understand the challenges faced by the affected communities,” said the official.

Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai, BJP’s national spokesman and northeast Coordinator Sambit Patra, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, Chief Security Advisor to Manipur Kuldiep Singh, top security and intelligence officials were present in these meetings.
