Childline India was notified by the blood bank officials, and the girl received counselling before being returned to her parents.
After their 16-year-old daughter went to the blood bank of a district hospital on Monday to sell her blood in order to buy a smartphone, their destitute family’s aspirations took a terrifying turn.
Concerned, the blood bank staff contacted Childline India, and with the assistance of the district child welfare council, the youngster was counselled before being returned to her parents.

Kanak Kumar Das statement

“A girl approached us around 10 am. Initially we thought that she had come to take blood as it was a blood bank of the district hospital. But when she told us that she wanted to sell us blood, we were shocked,”.

“I was not at home when she went out. I am not sure how she got the idea that she could sell blood to get money,”

Initially she told us that she wanted to sell her blood so that she could pay for her brother’s treatment. But later, upon a little counselling, she told us that she wanted money to buy a smartphone which she has already ordered online on her relative’s mobile phone,”.

Rita Mahato, a counsellor, hurried to the hospital when Childline on 1098 was notified by the blood bank officials that the girl was a minor.

“She revealed to us that she had placed an online purchase through an app on Sunday for a cell phone.
It will be delivered on Thursday and will cost about 9,000, according to Mahato.
