16 people, including 10 women, have been detained by the police for allegedly defrauding hundreds of job seekers by offering them high-paying positions in exchange for money.
Based on a complaint made by a job seeker earlier this month, a police squad conducted a raid on the Ivan Achievers Private Limited office in Sector V on Friday.
During the raid, Habibur Rehman, who allegedly used to run the business and had rented out the office space, was apprehended.
The men and women who were detained received training on how to find job websites and access the resumes posted there. The staff would contact the job seekers using the resumes while pretending to be representatives of placement agencies and inform them of available positions, according to the officer.
The workers would then demand payment from job seekers in order to put them in prestigious firms.
According to the position being offered, “they would ask for anything between Rs 10,000 and Rs 50,000,” stated an officer.
