Durga puja 2022: Kolkata’s Benia tola took the attention of 11-foot Astha dhatu Idol

AS today is Mahalya end of Pitru paksha and started of Devi pakha.

Kolkata’s Beniatola Sarbojanin puja took the attention of 1000kg weight of Astha dhatu Idol. The Durga Idol has been sculpted from Mahishadal and Midnapore under the famous artist, Mintu Pal. It is one of the heaviest Durga Idol in Kolkata.

However, the puja committee said transporting Durga Idol was incredibly challenging. If you compare 150 –200 kg it takes 20 to 25 people, but carrying 1,000kg Idol to carry is one of the most challenging tasks.

When the Astha dhatu Durga came to Beniatola it was placed in the Pandal by crane. The pandal of Beniatola caught the attention of every Bengali. It is one of the most incredible pandal in Kolkata.

Meanwhile, the puja committee of Beniatola Srbojanin have decided they will keep the idol through the year and they will do pujas. Over 18.5 lakh the cost of the Idol, with 2.5 lakh of transportation. And half of the transportation money has been given by 100 odd members.

Nowadays, the puja committee of Bengal went back to ordering big Durga idols, hence in the last two years of pandemic there was an economic slump so people have not taken risk for ordering big Durga Idols. Many Pujas committee organizers have decided in the last two years that they will move to small budget Puja. But this year they have decided that they will go big so that the economic condition of the state will increase and the cycle will move throughout.

The Durga puja will start from 1 of October and will end on 5 of October, and the city of joy is fully charged to celebrate the biggest festival after two years.
