15-feet long king cobra rescued in Assam

GUWAHATI, JULY 12: A-15 feet King Cobra was rescued by Devajit Moran and Ripjyoti Hazarika of Green Bud Society along with official of Assam forest department at Tingri Bazar area in upper Assam Tinsukia district on Monday night.

Devajit Moran said, “Last night around 2:30 am we got a call from the residence of Bikram Moran to rescue a snake. We witnessed a magnificent King Cobra at his place, and we rescued it successfully after around 3 hours of operation. The king cobra was around 15 feet long was rescued,”.

“It was released safely at Lakhipather range. We are really very happy to see the awareness among the people in and around our forest villages,” Moran added.

Devajit Moran and his team have rescued over 100 poisonous snake till date. He and his team relentlessly working to create awareness on snake conservation in village areas.

“Most of the snakes found in Assam are not pisionous and people killed snakes without knowing anything about the snakes. We are creating awareness on snake conservation and appeal people not to kill snakes,” Moran added.

He further added, “Snakes role is important for ecosystem because without snakes, the number of prey species will increase to unnatural levels and destroy the ecosystem. So, for maintaining balance eco-system snakes are important species,”.
