Assam: Stranded medical team rescued from Dibrugarh sandbar

DIBRUGARH, JUN 18: An 11-member medical team that was stranded in a sandbar in the middle of River Brahmaputra was rescued by NDRF and SDRF team after 24 hours. Five days ago, an 11-member team went to Charkhalia Chapori located at the middle of the Brahmaputra to conduct health camps for the 600-odd people living there.

On Saturday evening while the team was on its way to Dibrugarh from the Chapori, the boat lost direction due to poor visibility, and it got stranded in the sandbar.

“Both NDRF and SDRF teams have reached the spot and now moving towards Dibrugarh alongwith the medical team stuck in Charkholia Chapori. They are safe and sound and will reach Dibrugarh soon,” Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu said.

The team of medical staff consisted of Vishal Saikia, DPO, Dr. Dwip Jyoti Deka, Medical Officer, Siddhanath Gohain, Lab Technician, Apul Kumar Das, Pharmacist, Damayanti Das, ANM, Himani Roy, ANM, Ramakanta Yadav, Casual Worker, Shyam Yadav, Driver, Ramchandra Yadav, boatman, Pramod Dutt, Cook and Jiban Paul, Assistant.
