Anubrata Mondal, the leader of Trinamul Birbhum, who had been held in judicial custody for for 100 days, complained of chest pain on Sunday morning, which prompted officials at the Asansol Correctional Home to take him to the neighbourhood hospital for a checkup.

After 45 minutes of examination, a team of three doctors at the government hospital, including a surgeon and cardiologist, declared him stable and free of any obvious heart issues.

This event occurred before Tuesday’s Enforcement Directorate (ED) hearing for Mondal’s transit remand to Delhi.

After questioning Mondal for five hours in the Asansol prison, the ED detained him on November 17 for allegedly laundering many crores in the cattle smuggling case. According to sources, the jail administration chose to transport him to the Asansol District Hospital, which has specialists.

Mondal was driven by police to the hospital. Without assistance, he entered the hospital’s emergency room.

Police put in place strict security measures, but the usual hospital crowd was lacking because it was Sunday and the outpatient department (OPD) was closed.

As he entered the hospital, Mondal, who appeared exhausted, declined to talk to the journalists.

The hospital’s medical staff claimed to have checked Mondal’s blood pressure, sugar, and ECG.

Every report was accurate.

His weight has dropped by about 10 kg since his detention, according to the doctors, and he now weighs about 100 kg. A hospital doctor added, “It is best if he loses weight gradually as his health conditions will get more complicated with fat.”

Around 12.30 pm, he was returned to the prison.

Because of his alleged participation in the multi-million dollar cattle smuggling case, the CBI had detained Mondal on August 11.

Mondal was also questioned for an hour on Saturday in jail by a CBI team. On Saturday, the Trinamul leader met with his attorneys in custody to receive legal counsel.

According to sources, Mondal reported experiencing chest pain to the jail staff around 10am. Due to his numerous medical issues, Mondal was housed in the medical cell of the prison.
