Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, denounced minister Akhil Giri’s remarks about President Droupadi Murmu’s appearance on Monday and accepted TMC’s apology.

Denounce the remark made about President Droupadi Murmu by Minister Akhil Giri. On behalf of TMC, I sincerely apologise to her,” Banerjee was reported as saying by PTI.

“Someone has made a mistake, and we are rejecting it, not endorsing it. However, the rhetoric being used to make comments and the ongoing lying are unacceptable, according to Banerjee.

A video footage of Giri last week that had him making comments on the President’s appearance and making fun of the BJP went viral.They (the BJP) claimed that I am not attractive. We don’t evaluate people based on how they look. We regard the President’s office (of India). How does our President look, though? Late on Friday, Giri, the minister of state for Correctional Homes, was overheard speaking at an event in a village near Nandigram.

Giri apologised after his comments prompted massive condemnation and demonstrations from the opposition.

The BJP had requested that Giri be removed from his position as minister because his remarks about Murmu, a woman and a member of a Scheduled Tribe who holds the highest constitutional position in the nation, had offended every IndianMamata Banerjee needs to set an example by kicking such a leader out of her party (TMC). The country’s standards of politics have been tarnished and degraded by Giri, according to BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia.

In the meantime, the TMC published a video on Monday in which opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari was seen criticising state minister from the ST community Birbaha Hansda.

“For @SuvenduWB, disparaging women and the ST community comes naturally. For MLA @Birbaha Hansda, a proud adivasi and daughter of the soil, he used the most improper words. The TMC tweeted, “Any lecture on respect for women from @BJP4India leaders is a sad joke.

Adhikari is heard telling a group in the video, “There are children sitting there. These kids, Debnath Hansda and Birbaha Hansda, have taken up residence beneath my shoe.”

Adhikari, however, has refuted ever uttering such a remark.
