On Monday, hundreds of party members from four north Bengali districts will gather here for a rally opposed to the call for statehood, along with several notable Trinamul leaders.

This is the first centralised rally in recent months where leaders from the districts of Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar will raise slogans opposing any further division of Bengal.

Recently, a number of BJP parliamentarians from this area have supported the demands of numerous political parties and organisations for a state made up of the districts of north Bengal.

“Tomorrow (Monday), we’ll host a rally to denounce the conspiracy to split Bengal. Cattle smuggling and other crimes committed near the borders where the BSF is stationed will also be brought up, according to Papiya Ghosh, the Trinamul district president for the Darjeeling (plains) region. Political analysts drew attention to the BJP stronghold status of the districts from which leaders and activists have been summoned to the Trinamul event. Trinamul failed to win even one Assembly seat in Alipurduar or Darjeeling. These districts have also influenced the parties and organisations that call for statehood.

She claims that among others, state president of the Trinamul youthwing Sayani Ghosh, Siliguri mayor Gautam Deb, and north Bengal development minister Udayan Guha will attend the rally.

At a press conference on Sunday, Trinamul leaders stated that they would also protest the BJP’s “politics of slandering” Trinamul leaders with “baseless charges.”

“Some BJP leaders frequently level false accusations and make disparaging remarks against our leaders.

This needs to end. The BJP is attempting to use the polarisation card once more in north Bengal. We won’t allow it to happen. People avoided them in the civic elections, and they will do the same in the rural elections, according to a senior Trinamul official.
