Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, is anticipated to have a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 5 in New Delhi, an official said on Sunday.

Banerjee might demand that the Centre release the state’s outstanding debt during the anticipated meeting, the source added.

According to the official, she might also bring up to Modi the problem of Ganga erosion in the villages near and around the Farakka barrage.

The chief minister would likely bring up Bengal’s execution of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act at the meeting, the source added.

Banerjee recently wrote to Modi to express her concern over the ongoing erosion caused by the Ganga river in the districts of Malda, Murshidabad, and Nadia. She asked the prime minister to advise the relevant ministry to conduct a thorough investigation and develop an integrated plan to control the situation.

The gathering has been called by Modi in the nation’s capital.
