On Christmas Eve, a bar altercation in Hiland Park on the southern outskirts of Kolkata escalated into an alleged abduction, with the victim receiving a gunshot wound.
A man in his early 30s who entered a pub and got into an altercation with some men about seats is said to have been taken away in a Honda City sedan after he got out and was robbed inside the vehicle.
He was discovered abandoned along the EM Bypass not far from Narendrapur with a gunshot wound on his arm. The man, a supplier of building goods, is being treated in a hospital.
One of the suspected attackers was reportedly detained, according to police.
Pintu Bag, 31, a resident of Panchpota in Garia, met a friend at a bar on Saturday night. The gang made the choice to spend some time in Metropolis Mall’s pub, which is situated in Hiland Park.
At the pub inside Metropolis Mall, a brawl broke out between Bag and his companion and a group of men about seating arrangements. Bag was beaten and dragged into a Honda City that was waiting outside Hiland Park at around 10.30 p.m., according to deputy commissioner (east) Gaurav Lal.
Bag was allegedly blindfolded and coerced into handing over his money and phone. According to the authorities, the wallet appeared to contain Rs 20,000.
Bag was dumped on the road close to a beverage bottling plant after being driven a few kilometres in the direction of Kolkata’s southern outskirts. He was then fired upon.
He was fired upon twice. He was struck by one of the bullets in the arm. Bag was able to escape and save himself, according to a police officer from Survey Park on Monday.
Bag checked himself into a hospital in Ganguly Bagan, south of Kolkata, around 6 a.m. on Sunday.
Cops began looking through CCTV footage and finding the stolen phone. They focused on the gang member who was reportedly responsible for Bag’s kidnapping.
A case has been made under the Arms Act’s sections on kidnapping, robbery, attempted murder, and common intention.
According to the police, the person who was arrested, Mondal, is also involved in the delivery of building supplies
